How to Identify Certain Pesky Pests

At Hart Pest Control, we know that seeing signs of pests can be concerning. However, if you don’t understand which pest those signs point to, it can cause even more confusion.

So you don’t end up too confused or too concerned, we’re providing this guide for you to identify some of those pesky pests you may encounter.

Let’s start this guide off with one of the most common pests in the United States:

Cockroaches

When we say most common, we mean it. Cockroaches and the particles they leave are present in about 63 percent of homes. That means that you’re more likely to see some of these signs than you are not to.

Cockroaches leave signs such as droppings, smear marks, unusual odors, eggs or shredded skin cells. If you see any of these signs, the home likely has a cockroach problem or at least had one in the past.

Next is another common pest:

Rodents

Rodents are just as big of a nuisance as cockroaches. They spread germs and bacteria, causing illness to you and your loved ones. Unfortunately, they appear in around 29 percent of U.S. households.

Signs of rodents include small droppings, holes or gnaw marks on packaging, chewed wires, urine stains, scratching or thumping in walls.

Lastly, we have:

Termites

Termites are the biggest threat to your home, at least on this list. The damage they can cause to a home can be irreversible or cost you a fortune. They pop up in around 13 percent of homes and put them at risk.

Signs of termites are discolored or drooping drywall, peeling paint, wood that sounds hollow, small holes in drywall, buckling wooden or laminate floors and excessively squeaky floorboards.

You can find out more about measures to prevent or treat termites here.
